The IGN Hogwarts Legacy guide features a full walkthrough of the main story campaign, side quests, maps, and interactive collectible checklists, but sometimes players are just looking for a quick answer to a nagging question and don't want to delve too deep. To help out, we've assembled this selection of the most-asked Hogwarts Legacy questions and try to provide the best answers based on our own data and extensive guide information. The questions are based on things users search for or have asked Alpha, our IGN game help assistant.

How do you block attacks?

While you can roll out of the way to evade attacks, Hogwarts Legacy offers a block and counter system via the spell duo Protego and Stupefy. The spells don't have to be assigned, they're accessible by default via the top face button on your controller of choice (X on Switch, Y on Xbox, Triangle on PS5) or Q on a PC keyboard. Which house is the most popular with players - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin?

If our ongoing "House" poll of users of our Hogwarts Legacy guide on IGN is to be believed, it's Slytherin House, ahead of Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and finally Hufflepuff. Perhaps players are thinking that only Slytherin students will be able to explore Hogwarts' darker themes -- such as dabbling in dark magic. That's not the case, of course! See: How to Learn All Unforgivable Curses. Like every house in Hogwarts Legacy, Slytherin gets a branching story mission within the Richard Jackdaw's Ghost main quest. Each story branch offers something interesting, including a visit to exclusive locations.

Can you become an Animagus in Hogwarts Legacy?

No. Unlike in the game Hogwarts Mystery, there is no side story or talent that unlocks the power to turn into an animal or magical creature in Hogwarts Legacy. Many of your opponents (see: Enemies) exhibit the power to transform into animal forms, however, and you can counter and turn them back by casting Transformation. How do you solve the door puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy?

This remains hands-down the most searched-for puzzle solution -- despite the tricky Depulso Puzzle Rooms or the Hogwarts Viaduct Bridge puzzle. That's because players encounter these so-called Arithmancy Doors early on in their quest but may not stumble upon the drawing that provides a crucial hint for the solution until much later. Which ball in Quidditch is the largest?

Ah, you're taking Sophronia Franklin's quiz in Professor Weasley's Assignment, right? We're not sure why this particular question is asked more than the others, but we're happy to oblige. Is Hogwarts Legacy canon?

While the creators and J.K. Rowling haven't stated it explicitly either way, the events in Hogwarts Legacy are likely not canon -- despite the many locations and character names referenced from the books. Since it's set a century before the events in the Harry Potter novels and it also establishes connections with the (non-canon) movies in both design/visuals and sound, the storylines featured in the game are original and able to stand on their own.

Characters with familiar surnames like Rookwood and Weasley (among others) appear in key roles in Hogwarts Legacy, but no official ties to the later Rookwoods and Weasleys are stated or explored in the game's backstory. The game's interpretations of Nearly Headless Nick (aka Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington) and the Sorting Hat also closely align with their movie series counterparts, though both are voiced by Jason Anthony, instead of John Cleese and the late Leslie Phillips, respectively. Meanwhile, Sirius Black's great-great-grandfather, headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, appears in the game, but we don't know if the game's interpretation will remain the accurate, canon depiction should the Wizarding World canon expand to this era.

Can you date in Hogwarts Legacy?

No. Hogwarts Legacy features so-called "Relationship Quests", but they are centered around non-romantic exploits -- such as rescuing beasts or helping other human beings. So if you're looking for romancing options akin to games like Baldur's Gate 3, Mass Effect, or The Witcher 3 in Hogwarts Legacy, there are none.

Where do you sell beasts in Hogwarts Legacy?

If you're trying to make room in your Vivarium and are carrying too many beasts in your Nab-Sack to rescue more, you can head to Hogsmeade and visit Brood and Peck to sell beasts to the loving hands of its proprietor, Ellie Peck.

What are the most-used spells in Hogwarts Legacy?

We imagine the most-used spells are your Basic Cast attack and the ones assigned to specific buttons/keys by default, like Revelio, Protego, and the Ancient Magic Throw. But most players no doubt create a combat-heavy selection of spells as their "top four" shortcuts, with Bombarda taking the spot for an early spell later in the game.

How do you collect flying pages in Hogwarts Legacy?

The missing Field Guide pages come in different varieties -- including Revelio Pages that first have to be made visible with the Revelio spell, or those hidden by braziers or statues. But there is also one type that is hidden in plain sight: flying Field Guide Pages. But while spotting them is easy, grabbing them requires you to have the Accio spell. To learn this spell that lets you target something far away and bring it in close, just progress through the story (check our Charms Class walkthrough). How do you learn Avada Kedavra?

While there were some worries and complaints prior to Hogwarts Legacy's release as to how the developers would integrate the Unforgivable Curses into the story on account of them being, well, unforgivable, one thing is certain: players sure want to know how to learn and use them in game.

Avada Kedavra is still one of the most-searched for spells in the game, outside of the basic blocking and counter spells, Protego and Stupefy.

Hogwarts Legacy doesn't have a morality system, so learning the three dark spells is entirely a gameplay option and learning or not learning them doesn't affect the story in any way -- the spells are unavailable during key story segments. How do you fast-travel in Hogwarts Legacy?

Two words: Floo Flames. Once you arrive at Hogwarts, you’ll discover Floo Flames during the opening mission. These fast travel points – indicated by a bright green flame on the wall – can be found all across Hogwarts and when exploring the grounds outside the campus known as The Highlands. What is the Restricted Section and how do you get in?

If you haven't figured this out yet, you likely haven't started the right quest. Once you start the main story quest Secrets of the Restricted Section, you will team up with your new friend Sebastian Sallow, steal a key, and will be able to sneak into this gated-off section of the Hogwarts Library. Note that after this quest, you'll be able to freely access the Restricted Section. Just fast-travel to the Library and head on inside.

How many Field Guide Pages are there really?

You're right to be confused. Every wiki and site out there seems to have a different number -- and the game doesn't make it easy to figure out the answer. But trust us, there are 241. We counted them. The trick is that the in-game counters don't account for all of them. While your Collections Menu counts 150 Revelio Pages, that's just a subset of the Field Guide Pages found in the game. And if you check how many Field Guide Pages (all types) are found within Hogwarts Castle, it also displays that there are 150. But there are actually 155 inside the castle, with one found outside that is -- confusingly -- tracked as part of the 150 Hogwarts Castle pages. Lost yet?

The discrepancy lies within pages found within quests. Those are used to demonstrate how to discover them and aren't counted as part of the regional totals. So, there are 156 pages in the Hogwarts Castle section, 55 in Hogsmeade Village, and 30 in the Highlands (the overworld). Technically, one of the Hogwarts Castle pages is located in the Highlands outside the castle grounds, but let's not make this more complicated that it already is. Is there Hogwarts Legacy DLC on the way?

Well, technically, there is a DLC pack -- but it's not what you're looking for. The Dark Arts Pack just features a cosmetic set, battle arena, and the ability to use a Thestral as a mount, but it's just a small bonus add-on that was part of the Digital Deluxe Edition and also sold separately (at a decidedly unmagical pricepoint of $19.99). Considering the success of Hogwarts Legacy as a top-selling game across multiple platforms, the lack of a story expansion is truly confounding to fans. Thus, one of the most-asked questions since the game's release in February of 2023 is: will there be more? Are DLC Expansions on the way?

Sadly, as of December 2023, there still aren't any plans for additional content. The last official word comes from our interview with the game's director, Alan Tew during IGN Fan Fest, where he said "at the moment there are no current plans for DLC."
